2024 Reservations for Kids & Milking Does

We are taking reservations for 2024 Nigerian Dwarf kids and milking does.  Kids are due to be born from March through May.  Please visit our Breeding Schedule to see planned sire/dam pairings and specific due dates.  Feel free to Contact Us.  We are happy to answer any questions and discuss which goats would best fit your plans and goals.

We are expecting a lot of flashy kids this year, and there will be many coat colors and patterns and both brown and blue eyes to choose from.  Visit our Baby Goat Photo Gallery to see photos of some our past kids.  Photos of the kids for sale will be available as they are born.

DOELINGS ~ Starting at $ 350 ea.  Take home as bottle babies or when weaned at about 10 weeks of age.  We offer a $ 50 discount per doeling if they are picked up as bottle babies before reaching 2 weeks of age.  Doelings come with ADGA & AGS registration.  A $ 100 deposit per doeling is required to place a reservation.  You can also get on our availability notification list for doelings free of charge (reservations with deposits get first pick, however).

BUCKLINGS ~ Starting at $ 350 ea.  Take home as bottle babies or when weaned at about 10 weeks of age.  We offer a $ 50 discount per buckling if they are picked up as bottle babies before reaching 2 weeks of age.  Bucklings come with ADGA & AGS registration, and we will have all ADGA-registered bucklings born in 2024 DNA typed upon sale (buck DNA typing is now required by ADGA to register offspring from bucks born in 2024 or later -- see Here for more info).  If you specially request only AGS registration for your buckling, we offer a $ 50 discount per buckling since it saves us the time and expense of DNA typing them for ADGA.  A $ 100 deposit per buckling is required to place a reservation.  You can also get on our availability notification list for bucklings free of charge (reservations with deposits get first pick, however).

WETHERS (neutered male kids) ~ $ 100 each for bottle babies or $ 150 each weaned. Excellent choice for sweet pets, companions for another goat, or weed eaters. Take home as newborn bottle babies for the full experience of raising little goats that bond to you as "mom," or pick up when weaning age at 8-10 weeks old.  Bottle babies will be ready to pick up as soon as they are born and have had colostrum.  If desired, wethers may be registered with the American Goat Society for an additional registration fee of $ 25 per kid. Reserve wether kids with a $ 50 deposit per kid (balance due upon pick up).

MILKING DOES ~ Starting at $ 450.  If you are looking for a doe that is already producing milk, we will have a number of ADGA & AGS registered does in milk available after they kid.  Excellent production lines with great potential for milking, breeding, and showing.  Does can be reserved with a $ 100 deposit per doe, or you can get on our notification list free of charge (reservations with deposits get first pick, however).  Does may be available with their kids at a package price.  We also have bred does currently available -- see Goats for Sale.

Disbudding
Kids are routinely disbudded (horns removed) or polled (naturally hornless). If you want a kid with horns, please let us know in advance. We require full payment for horned kids within 5 days of birth because there isn't a large market for horned dairy goats.  Note that horned dairy goats cannot be shown. All adult does come polled or disbudded.

How to Reserve Goats:
When goats that fit your reservation are available, you can come out to the farm and pick out your goat(s) in person, or we can email you photos to choose from, at your preference and convenience.  Once you have selected the goat(s) you want, we require 1/2 payment to hold registered bucklings, doelings, or milking does that will be picked up at a later date.  (The $ 100 reservation deposit is put toward the 1/2 payment.)  No additional payments beyond the $ 50 reservation deposit required to hold wether kids until weaning age.  Balance of all goats due upon pick up.  We take checks, money orders, or PayPal (or cash if you can drop it off at the farm). Things to Consider Before Getting Goats:
~ If you have not owned goats or livestock before, we recommend reading the book Storey's Guide to Raising Dairy Goats to learn about basic goat care before bring home your goats. We are also happy to answer any questions or help you along the way with advice for goat care and recommendations for the best goat feed, care products, and veterinarians that are available in our area.  All bottle babies come with a bottle-baby care sheet for easy reference.
~ Remember that goats are herd animals and need a buddy of the same species for their proper development and psychological wellbeing. Therefore, we require a minimum purchase of 2 goats unless you already have goats.
~ If you do not intend to breed and milk the goats but just want some for pets, wethers (neutered males) are the most practical option, as they are less expensive than does but just as tame and sweet. (Note that you do not want intact buck goats as pets, because they urinate on themselves and have a clinging odor that isn't pleasant on a pet -- wethers do not urinate on themselves or stink.)
~ If you want a doeling for a future milk goat but don't want to spend the money on getting 2 doelings, a great way to start is with 1 doe kid and 1 wether kid for her companion. Many new goat owners like to start with kids so that they can get accustomed to raising goats before they need to start a milking routine. A well-grown Nigerian doe kid can be bred at 8-10 months old and start producing milk at 13-15 months old.

About Nigerian Dwarf Goats:
Nigerian Dwarfs are a miniature goat and the smallest of all the dairy goat breeds. Standard size for Nigerian does is 17 to 22.5 inches at the shoulder and 17 to 23.5 inches at the shoulder for bucks. This small size makes them practical homestead dairy animals since they are easy to care for, handle, and accommodate. They are also perfect for 4-H or FFA since children can handle them easily.
Nigerians have the highest milk butterfat content of any other breed of dairy goats or cattle. Their milk is sweet and creamy, free of the unappealing "goaty" flavor people often associate with goat's milk. The high butterfat content also makes it ideal for making cheese, butter, and soap. A good mature Nigerian doe can produce around a half gallon of milk a day. People who are sensitive to cow's milk can often drink goat's milk because it is easier to digest.
In addition to their practical production traits, Nigerian Dwarfs are friendly, cute, and intelligent and make great pets and companions. They can be trained like a dog (even house trained). They come in a huge selection of colors and patterns and are one of the few goat breeds that can have either brown or blue eyes.
They also like to eat all kinds of weeds and brush and are excellent for controlling weeds, including tansy and knapweed.
